IO Interactive has delayed 007 First Light, pushing its release back so the team can spend more time tightening it up.
The James Bond origin story has picked up real steam since its full reveal at PlayStation’s State of Play, where IO Interactive showed extended gameplay and showed off a younger, less polished Bond . First Light was previously locked in for a March 27, 2026 launch, dropping it into an already crowded spring release window.
That made the delay land a bit harder, even if it was not entirely unexpected.
Bond takes a detour before 007 First Light launch
In a statement shared on X, IO Interactive confirmed that 007 First Light will now launch on May 27, 2026.
“Quality is our top priority,” the studio wrote. “This decision wasn’t taken lightly, but it’s the right move to ensure players get the experience they expect.”
The update stressed that core development is complete and the game is playable end-to-end, but additional optimization, bug fixes, and quality-of-life improvements remain ahead of launch.
The reaction was mostly supportive. One fan wrote, “Absolutely the right call. Needed more time after the State of Play footage.”
Another said they were “sad that it got delayed but trusting that you guys will be bringing this banger of a game in excellent shape ❤️.” Others pointed out the timing, calling it a “good decision” given how crowded March already looks for major releases.
