You can now buy a cup of coffee for around $1000, and it’s located exactly where you’d expect – Dubai.
Chefs and beverage gurus have long been pushing the envelope when it comes to luxury dining. We’ve seen a $70,000 pizza, chicken wings covered in 24 karat gold leaves, and the viral Dubai Chocolate trend driving up the price of some baked goods.
Dubai is typically the leader in these trends, especially as high-end restaurants want to create hype and bring customers from all over the world through the doors.
Now, the capital of the United Arab Emirates is home to another first – a cup of coffee that will cost you around $1000 every time you order it. Seriously.
$1000 cup of coffee goes on sale in Dubai
The world’s most expensive cup of joe, which is being sold by Julith Cafe, was revealed on November 5 after they had purchased the Panamanian beans from an auction for around $600,000.
However, the cafe owners believe they are justified with the big price tag. “The total lot was 20kg and we are planning to serve 400 cups, approximately,” they told AFP. “And, we are not thinking of sharing any greens with any other companies, so we want it to be exclusive for the Julith brand.”
According to AFP’s report, Julith Cafe will also be holding over part of the bean stock to give to Dubai’s ruling family, so it’s even more exclusive.
The previous record price was 2500 dihrams, or $681, which was only set back in September. That was also recorded by the Guinness Book of World Records, so a change is going to be needed on that front as well.
