Joe Rogan was left stunned after Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb revealed that discussions about possible alien technology tied to interstellar object 3I/ATLAS are being deliberately blocked by supposed experts.
3I/ATLAS is only the third confirmed interstellar object to ever enter our solar system. Unlike typical comets, it emits a strange glow, spins rapidly, and may even shine with its own light. While NASA insists it’s a comet, Loeb believes there’s a 40% chance it could be artificial technology.
Loeb and Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna have previously warned that if 3I/ATLAS is a mothership, it could deploy small probes to observe Earth. The astrophysicist has also criticized global institutions for lacking a plan in the event of alien contact, urging the United Nations to take the threat more seriously.
Appearing on The Joe Rogan Experience on October 28, Loeb explained that active discussion of alien tech theories is being suppressed. He recalled how, while on vacation with his wife, he couldn’t stop thinking about 3I/ATLAS, which had just been discovered days earlier. Mesmerized by its massive size compared to the first known interstellar visitor, ‘Oumuamua, he began drafting a paper immediately.

Loeb explained that 3I/ATLAS’ trajectory and its size made him ponder if it was designed by an advanced alien species.
“I also realized there is not enough rocky material per unit volume in interstellar space to deliver such a giant rock into the inner solar system within a period of a decade,” Loeb said. “You would expect it, in a very optimistic scenario, once every 10,000 years.”

But when Loeb submitted his paper for publication, he says his editor refused to approve it unless he removed a single sentence from the conclusion, one suggesting the object might have been targeting the inner solar system by design.
“The editor said, ‘Oh, the paper is fine, but you have a concluding sentence at the end where you say maybe it was targeting the inner source,’” Loeb recalled. “And indeed, the trajectory is aligned with the plane of the planets around the Sun to within 5°. The chance for that at random is one in 500.”
Loeb went on to explain that 3I/ATLAS’s movement would be ideal for a reconnaissance mission if it were indeed artificial. “It’s moving in a retrograde trajectory opposite to the motion of the planets, which is ideal for it to release mini-probes that will get into the planets. It goes on the opposite side of the Sun relative to Earth when it’s closest, and that’s the time when a spacecraft could perform a maneuver to take advantage of the Sun’s gravitational assist.”
“You know, all of these are interesting indications that may imply that some intelligence designed the trajectory.”
The astrophysicist said his editor demanded that he remove any reference to intelligent design before the paper could be published. “So now when you listen to comet experts who say, ‘this claim was never published in a peer-reviewed journal,’ guess what? They are the editors or the reviewers who are blocking the discussion on possibilities,” Loeb said. “And I think it’s inappropriate, especially in the case of alien technology, because it could be a Black Swan event, something that affects the future of humanity.”
Rogan didn’t hold back, calling those editors “arrogant” for suppressing open scientific debate about the object’s potential artificial origin.
