Police are laying the smackdown on a 52-year-old WWE figure YouTuber and his tag team partner, who were arrested after the pair allegedly stole over $1,000 in wrestling action figures.
The world of pro wrestling is one of the biggest fandoms, with countless collectables being released over the years.
Just like with Pokemon cards, video games, and other memorabilia, wrestling figures can be highly sought after, so much so that, apparently, some people resort to theft.
On October 2, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant at a residence where 36-year-old Brittany Gomez and 52-year-old Miguel Dominguez resided. Their alleged crime? Stealing over $1,000 worth of WWE figures from Walmart and Target.
WWE YouTuber faces felony charges for action figure theft
According to EWrestling News, inside the house, officers found hundreds of stolen WWE figures, some still in original boxes, stacked from the floor to the ceiling.
The figures include wrestlers, rings, and other merchandise that the authorities believe were intended for resale.
Miguel Dominguez, also known as TheGizmo619, is a known figure (no pun intended) in the internet wrestling community. His Instagram account has over 20,000 followers, but his YouTube channel appears to have since been taken down.
Other creators from within the scene have noticed that police photos of the house line up with TheGizmo619’s room from prior YouTube videos.
“I think the most shocking thing of all this, is this man being 52 years of age,” wrote fellow collector Nick Storm Review.
Gomez and Dominguez were taken to the Vista Detention Facility and were hit with felony charges, including grand theft, possession of stolen goods, and theft of merchandise valued at over $950.
Police say the discovery was made as part of an ongoing, larger investigation into retail theft in the region.
