67, the meme that has captured the internet’s attention in late 2025, has been named the word of the year by Dictionary.com. Seriously.
Over the years, plenty of internet slang terms have started being used in everyday life. A number of these have been born out of TikTok and Twitch, including rizz, skibidi, brainrot, and ratioed.
Even though they’re used in everyday life, not all of these terms are going to make it into the dictionary. A few have, though, being recognized for their cultural impact and how quickly they’ve become widespread.
Well, 67, which was born from rapper Skrilla and his song ‘Doot Doot (67)’ has become the latest of those, being awarded the ‘word of the year’ accolade from Dictionary.com.
67 wins 2025 word of the year award
“Searches for 67 experienced a dramatic rise beginning in the summer of 2025. Since June, those searches have increased more than sixfold, and so far the surge shows no signs of stopping,” the website announced.
“Most other two-digit numbers had no meaningful trend over that period, implying that there is something special about 67. 67 shows the speed at which a new word can rocket around the world as a rising generation enters the global conversation.”
Dictionary.com noted that the phrase can “frustrate” people. “It has all the hallmarks of brainrot,” they added.
67 beat out the likes of Aura Farming, the TNT emoji, Clanker, Gen Z stare, and Tariff to grab the word of the year honor, too.
It also means that trending internet topics have won the award in back-to-back years, as demure won the honor in 2024.
