HBO finally revealed the first full trailer for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and there’s a specific Star Wars feeling to the Game of Thrones prequel.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set roughly 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones unfolded. So that means it’s a time in Westeros without magic, monsters, or those pesky undead zombies that want to kill everyone.

It follows Ser Duncan the Tall, AKA Dunk, played by Peter Claffey who goes on adventures with Prince Aegon Targaryen, AKA Egg, played by Dexter Sol Ansell.

Surprisingly, the first trailer for the six-episode series gives off a very specific Star Wars vibe.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms channels beloved Star Wars show, The Mandalorian

No, don’t worry we haven’t accidentally watched The Mandalorian & Grogu trailer again, but the core relationship in the first trailer for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is very similar to that other dynamic duo from the Star Wars galaxy.

Maybe our comparison is a little obvious, but both projects follow a wandering warrior who’s tasked with looking after a younger person who has more to them than meets the eye. Then again, the Dunk and Egg novels were written between 1998 and 2010… Plus, it’s a trope that has existed in literature since the 1976 Lone Wolf & Cub manga by Kazuo Koike and Goseki Kojima.

Anyway, the first trailer for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms introduces audiences to Dunk and Egg, while also showing off Westeros at a time when it isn’t being torn apart by civil war or dragons fighting in the skies.

The six-episode series starts airing on HBO from January 18, 2026, and presumably the streamer is hoping its success allows them to adapt all three novellas in the Dunk and Egg series.
