A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has taken the Game of Thrones franchise in an exciting new direction, but Episode 4 is dropping on a different day this week – here’s why.
Based on the ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ novellas by George R.R. Martin, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms takes a very different approach to storytelling than its predecessors Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon.
Rather than sweeping, epic tales about multiple characters told over the course of an hour or more, here we get much shorter episodes that focus on just two characters – Ser Duncan the Tall and his young squire Egg.
Each instalment has debuted on Sunday evening in the US, but this week it’s going two days early, for a predictable reason.
Why is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Episode 4 dropping early?
Episode 4 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will debut on Friday, February 6 due to Super Bowl Sunday.
To avoid with America’s biggest sporting event, the fourth instalment – which is titled ‘Seven’ – will debut at 12.01am PT / 3.01am, before its linear premiere on Sunday at 7pm PT / 10pm ET.
The Game of Thrones spinoff isn’t the only show making that move, as Episode 5 of Industry Season 4 will also debut on HBO Max this coming Friday before its linear premiere on Sunday.
We’re speculating as to what might happen in the next AKOTSK episode below, so potential SPOILERS ahead…
What will happen in Episode 4?
Episode 3 featured the huge reveal that Egg is a Targaryen, so Episode 4 will revolve around the fallout from that twist.
Aerion was about to knock Dunk’s teeth out at the end of Episode 3, before Egg stepped in and revealed himself to be Prince Aegon V Targaryen.
That means two things – Duncan’s young squire is royalty, and he’s been lying to Dunk since the moment they met.
That’s what Episode 4 will be about, with a newly released trailer kicking off with Egg apologizing to a clearly incarcerated Dunk for his actions, and Dunk refusing to accept that apology.
We then learn that Aerion wants the Hedge Knight’s head, and that is likely to happen via a Trial of Seven, for which Dunk must find six other knights to fight beside him.
The footage ends with Duncan making an impassioned plea to the Ashford Meadow crowd, bellowing, “Who will stand and fight with me? Has courage deserted the noble houses of Westeros? Are there no true knights among you?”
Meaning we’ll find out this Friday if anyone is brave enough to battle Aerion alongside him.
