Warner Bros. has given A Minecraft Movie 2 a release date, but it’s going to have a fight on its hands at the global box office…
It was inevitable that WB would dive back into the Overworld after A Minecraft Movie raked in $957 billion at the box office when it was released in April this year. It’s the second-highest grossing movie of 2025, and missed out on the top spot thanks to Chinese animated hit, Ne Zha 2, which earned over $2 billion.
The film whipped fans into a frenzy thanks to its Chicken Jockey scene going viral and causing chaos in screenings. Warner Bros. is likely hoping to replicate that success when the untitled Minecraft Movie 2 arrives on July 23, 2027.
However, that might be difficult since another major movie is also set for release on the same day.
Minecraft Movie 2 will have to fight The Simpsons Movie 2
July 2027 is going to be a battle of the pop culture juggernauts, because Disney and 20th Century Studios recently announced The Simpsons Movie 2 for the exact same date. Meaning cinemagoers have a new Barbenheimer on their hands.
Simecraft? The Minesons? Whatever social media dubs the inevitable double-bill of sequels, both studios will probably be rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of a huge payday.
Success for both films will obviously depend on their respective audiences. Typically speaking, older fans might lean towards The Simpsons’ antics, but younger viewers will be back for more memes in A Minecraft Movie 2. Of course, marketing might sway one more than the other.
It’s always a possibility that either studio might decide to shuffle its release dates so they don’t have to fight for the box office, but only time will tell.
