Pokemon Go fans in New York City have been left baffled after discovering that one particularly committed trainer turned Central Park’s east side into a frozen hotspot.

A reported 80 glacier lures — special items that attract Water- and Ice-type creatures — were dropped across the park in one go, lighting up the map like a frosty festival.

Winter comes early in New York City, and it’s this Pokemon Go player’s fault

The spectacle was first spotted on Reddit, where a player shared a screenshot of the park.

They couldn’t believe what they were seeing.

They said: “Open Pokemon Go to see the entire east side is covered by lures, all placed by the same trainer. My question is why?”

Fellow players quickly piled in with their thoughts and jokes.

One simply quipped, “Winter is coming.” Another saw an opportunity: “This is a good idea to get my Ice badge platinum. I still need 5 more and I’m 3.5 million into 49.”

Some speculated that the trainer might be aiming for the Picnicker medal, which requires 2,500 Pokemon to be caught by other players at your lures. As one user explained, “You can earn a platinum medal if other players catch 2,500 Pokemon from your lures.”

Others questioned the need for such a massive lure drop in the first place.

“Yeah but you can use regular lures for that, and especially in NYC that many lures are overkill for the medal lol,” another replied.

Regardless of the motive, the icy lure flood transformed Central Park into a bustling hunting ground for Water- and Ice-type Pokemon, drawing trainers in droves.

While the identity of the mystery lure-dropper remains unknown, the event has sparked plenty of curiosity — and more than a few frosty jokes — within the Pokemon Go community.
