The upcoming free-to-play open-world game, Ananta, is under fire once again, this time being accused of “ripping off” Uncharted.
When the game’s first gameplay trailer dropped on September 23, it quickly drew criticism for elements that many feel have been plucked from different games. This included the sprawling city that’s heavily inspired by GTA, to a swinging system that uses animations eerily similar to Insomniac’s Spider-Man.
Ananta, which is published by NetEase, then appeared at Tokyo Game Show 2025, where another 10 minutes of footage were shared. But while some fans were excited by what they saw, others couldn’t help but notice some more familiar moments.
Antana accused of plagiarizing Uncharted after latest demo
Towards the end of the demo, the main character, Chenxiu, finds himself being dragged through an industrial area while he hangs from black webs attached to the back of a moving truck. He skids along the ground and crashes through various obstacles, while quick-time events allow him to dodge hazards.
It’s very reminiscent of an iconic section of Uncharted 4, where Nathan Drake is chasing down a car through Madagascar. It featured heavily in the marketing leading up to its release in 2016, and has gone down as one of the series’ most memorable sequences.
After picking up on the similarities, many fans responded, calling Ananta out for taking a little too much inspiration from Naughty Dog’s work and ‘ripping it off.’
“At this point the plagiarism is so blatant it’s actually kind of impressive,” said one reply on X, while another branded it: “Stolen asset slop: The game.”
Meanwhile, another joked: “Only thing this game is missing is catching monsters into balls.”
However, there were some who defended it, arguing that it’s far from the first game to draw heavily from those that came before.
