Nintendo has officially confirmed that Animal Crossing: New Horizons is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, after plenty of fan demand.
Released in March 2020, Animal Crossing: New Horizons became one of the biggest cultural hits of its generation. It sold over 40 million copies and turned into a social phenomenon, offering players a quiet escape as they built their own island paradises. Since then, it has remained one of Nintendo’s most beloved and recognizable titles.
Ever since the Switch 2 debuted, fans have been calling for a next-gen version of New Horizons, and now, after months of anticipation, Nintendo has delivered. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, and soon.
In a new 12-minute announcement trailer posted to YouTube, Nintendo revealed that the game will be getting a native Switch 2 edition with upgraded visuals and smoother performance, alongside a major free update for all players.
The free update, launching the same day, brings a ton of new content with players able to explore a new resort hotel, benefit from additional amiibo functionality, and collect exclusive collaboration items alongside expanded online features, updates to online play, and so many other additions.
This update marks the biggest content drop since the Happy Home Paradise expansion back in 2021. For newcomers picking it up on the Switch 2, it is a full package and the definitive way to experience Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
As explained in the trailer, “Nintendo Switch 2 players who already have Animal Crossing: New Horizons on Nintendo Switch can upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition by purchasing the upgrade pack,” so fans with both consoles can still benefit from this new version.
