Another Tace Bell-fuelled 50K ultramarathon is now set for Washington, DC, and hundreds of fast-food athletes are already signed up for the physically, mentally, and spiritually challenging run.
A few weeks back, one of the first Taco Bell 50Ks went viral. The idea? Run a measly 50K (31-mile) ultramarathon while stopping for snack breaks along the way.
The run charted a course across 10 Taco Bell locations, with runners forced to eat something at at least nine of the stops amid their race. So not only was it a test of your endurance, but your stomach’s willpower too. Can you keep that much Taco Bell down amid such a gruelling run?
Well, after gaining popularity online, the first event in Denver, Colorado, has now spawned another identical run in DC. Over 400 runners are already signed up in hopes of clearing the challenge and earning a yet-to-be-revealed prize.
Next Taco Bell 50K ultramarathon set for Washington, DC
Set to kick off on Saturday, November 29 at 8AM sharp, the ultramarathon pledges to be the “ultimate mix of endurance and spice.”
Runners have 11 hours in which to complete the course, running the 31 miles, but also eating at least nine items from the Taco Bell menu. There are two must-eat meals; however, those being the following:
- By the 4th stop, all entrants must have consumed at least one (1) Chalupa Supreme or one Crunchwrap Supreme
- By the 8th stop, all entrants must have consumed at least one (1) Burrito Supreme or one Nachos Bell Grande
Crucially, drinks do not count, even if calorie-rich. And also of note, the event is in no way sponsored or endorsed by Taco Bell. As such, the nine Taco Bell locations along the course aren’t closing the doors to regular customers in order to focus on the race. As such, officials have advised runners to order ahead and be patient as hundreds of orders are fulfilled.
Morbidly, runners must acknowledge the associated risks before they take their first steps in the ultramarathon. Those risks, naturally, include potential death.
It costs nothing to enter, though those competing do have to purchase their own food at each stop.
You may be asking yourself, why would anyone get involved? Well, with 418 individuals already signed up at the time of writing, the answer is clear: It’s all for a bit of fun.
