Arc Raiders players are pushing back against Embark Studios’ newly revealed The Abyss skin, with much of the criticism focusing on its leg design and a wave of memes comparing it to Fishnet Patrick.
The Abyss skin surfaced Tuesday, January 13, and quickly became a talking point across Reddit, where players highlighted the crisscrossed, lace-like material on the character’s legs. Several highly upvoted posts described the look as distracting or out of place, with one thread jokingly calling the legwear “BDSM knee pads.”
Shortly after the skin was revealed, every post mentioning the lacey legs was bombarded with GIFs and images of Patrick Star in fishnet leggings from The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004).
Arc Raiders leg corsets design rejected by players
As screenshots spread, comparisons escalated into full meme edits, including side-by-side images and reaction panels. One popular post simply asked “anyone else feel the same way?” alongside a meme showing excitement turning into disbelief once the legs came into view.
Another edit removed the pants entirely and replaced them with fishnet stockings and heels, further cementing the SpongeBob connection as a running joke.
Beyond the memes, some players say the reaction reflects broader frustration with Arc Raiders’ cosmetic direction.
Comments across multiple threads argue that recent skins have been hit-or-miss, with the Abyss set becoming a flashpoint rather than an isolated complaint. Several users said the rest of the outfit looks solid, but the legs undermine the overall design.
A recurring comparison has been drawn to Embark’s other shooter, The Finals, which allows players to mix and match cosmetic pieces freely. Arc Raiders currently does not offer the same level of customization, and commenters say being locked into full outfits makes divisive elements harder to overlook.
Requests for separate body-part customization and expanded color options were among the most common suggestions.
