ARC Raiders features plenty of AI enemies that can end your run in seconds, but players are begging Embark not to nerf them ahead of the full launch.
For many fans, the Server Slam test was the first opportunity to try out the much-hyped ARC Raiders ahead of its October 30 launch. It quickly flew up Steam’s most-played charts and received a ton of positive feedback, only increasing the anticipation.
One of the biggest talking points from the free weekend wasn’t the PvP combat, but instead the AI enemies that litter the maps. The ARC robots were far from just fodder, as players noticed how brutally challenging they could be, even more so than in previous tests.
But while this difficulty was off-putting to some streamers, most are actually urging the devs not to change it.
ARC Raiders players beg devs not to nerf difficult enemies
Since the Server Slam ended on October 19, there were a number of social media posts calling out how much damage the ARC could do, as well as many shots they could take before dying. However, in response, many fans are calling for Emabrk Studios not to listen to them.
“Seeing a lot of streamers/YouTubers calling for the Arc robots to be nerfed as they’re too difficult to fight. The moment you do that is the moment this game turns into your generic extraction PvP game,” said one player on Reddit, before continuing:
“They can turn the tide of any PvP encounter. They can also dictate patterns of play for players. They’re difficult enough to make players actively avoid them by altering their routes of movement. If you take all of that away, you’re taking away the magic.”
They were far from alone, either, as another post urged Embark not to “cave in,” claiming that “ARC Raiders is perfect the way it is.”
“Not every game needs to hold your hand. The difficulty is what gives it its identity. It’s what makes every encounter matter, every extraction feel earned,” said said one player. “People will always complain early on, but the ones who stick around, the ones who get it… they will make this game thrive long term.”
Other replies agreed, arguing that the occasional tough difficulty helps ARC Raiders stand out from the crowd, since AI enemies don’t usually pose much of a threat.
“I’ve been waiting for a PvEvP game where the E was actually dangerous enough to influence the game,” wrote one player. “I love the idea that if enough ARC drones show up, there is a chance a fight ends and both teams try and walk away/reengage.”
The Server Slam test only offered a small taste of the enemies on offer, from floating Hornets to the giant Queen, but there are even more to come in the full release on October 30.
