Twitch streamer Asmongold accused Pokimane of “lacking empathy” after her response to finding out her podcast’s staff refused to upload an episode with Hasan.
On October 13, Pokimane and LillyPichu’s Sweet N Sour podcast announced that it would be missing a scheduled upload of an episode featuring Hasan.
Hasan has been under fire from many in the streaming community for allegedly using a shock collar on his dog, something that he denies.
“We’ve been watching the recent drama unfold concerning our guest, and it’s been getting intense. We had a serious talk as a crew, and we all agreed that it did not feel right uploading tomorrow’s episode at this moment in time,” Sweet N Sour’s statement read.
However, Pokimane later revealed that she never agreed to release that statement, instead claiming it the episode was supposed to air as usual.
“Staff refused to upload it out of fear it’d cause drama,” she said, further adding that the podcast would be going on hiatus to undergo restructuring.
This comment from Pokimane sparked its own batch of controversy given the situation regarding Hasan and Asmongold called out the Moroccan-born Canadian, believing she was setting up her staff to be attacked.
Asmongold blasts Pokimane for response to Hasan podcast cancellation
During a stream, Asmongold accused Pokimane of showing a “lack of empathy” for how she handled her staff’s decision.
“She should understand that while she has a big fan base, and a lot of people are fans of her and are going to defend her, and she’s got a lot of people that like her, but her staff don’t have that.”
According to Asmongold, this just resulted in her staff getting attacked on social media, and people are being hostile to them.
“If I was her and I saw that my staff put out a statement like that, I’ll be honest, it would f**king annoy me. It would make me mad, because they should have talked to me before they said this.
“But what I would have done, is I would have said, ‘listen, I understand that a lot of you guys like Hasan, but there’s a lot of people that don’t like him right now and I don’t want to put my staff in a situation where they could be caught in the crossfire between my friendship with somebody else and internet drama.’ At that point, it would have exonerated the staff; they would not have gotten attacked.”
Asmongold claimed that Pokimane should have made sure that nothing bad would happen to people who work on her podcast, calling them “her flock” while she’s their “shepherd.”
“You have to do your best to do what is in their best interest and do what is the right thing is for them, because in the same way that they serve you, they have put their faith in you to also serve them.”
