Assassin’s Creed Black Flag could be getting a highly anticipated remake soon, after Edward Kenway’s voice actor, not-so-subtly hinted at its upcoming announcement.
Your favorite Assassin’s Creed game is utterly personal (mine’s Odyssey), but the best game isn’t based on opinion. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag is easily the best AC title in the franchise, and that’s a fact. If you’ve had the fortune to dive into the pirate’s life and enjoy your role as Edward Kenway, then it’s hard to disagree.
However, Black Flag can feel a little dated, especially after seeing the visual upgrades in AC Shadows. After all, the fantastic adventure was released back in 2013, which was 12 years ago (feel old yet?). Fear not, though, for a brand new remake could be on the horizon after Kenway’s voice actor teased its imminent announcement.

As shared on X, during a convention, Edward Kenway’s voice actor, Matt Ryan, was signing posters for fans. During which he asked one particular fan if they’d beaten Black Flag. Naturally, the player said they had. Ryan replied, “Well, you may have to beat it again… there’s a reason I say that, but I can’t say anything,” giving a rather knowing look into the camera.
Given he knew he was being recorded, and that players have been calling for a remake, this all but feels like confirmation that we’ll be getting either an announcement or the remake soon. After all, for the voice actor to so unsubtly hint that players will be completing the adventure again, it feels far too clear to be a misdirection.
Whether we can expect an announcement or a shadowdrop is up for debate, but given Elder Scrolls shadowdropped their Oblivion remake (which also wasn’t much of a secret), it could be the same for one of the most popular Assassin’s Creed games.
Of course, AC Shadows is still getting regular releases and story drops, but there’s no reason Ubisoft couldn’t have more than one team working on separate games at the same time. After all, this remake was leaked back in 2023, so it’s potentially been in the works for a while.
While Ubisoft hasn’t confirmed or denied the existence of a Black Flag remake, it’s clear that Matt Ryan knows something we don’t. We’ll all have to keep an eye on Ubisoft to see if our pirating dreams will finally come true again.
