Assassin’s Creed and Journey composer Austin Wintory congratulated this year’s Grammy nominees – in which he is also a nominee – but stated he was “sad” that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 had missed out on being shortlisted.
In a post on X/Twitter, Wintory thanked the Recording Academy for including his score for Sword of the Sea in the 2026 Grammy nominations, but went on to express disappointment that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 wasn’t among them.
He wrote that he was “sad at the lack of Expedition 33 among them” before adding, “I would happily trade places. That score is the definition of worthy.”
Clair Obscur misses out on 2026 Grammy list
This year’s nominees for Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media include Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora – Secrets of the Spires, Helldivers 2, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card & A Pirate’s Fortune, and Sword of the Sea.
Developed by Sandfall Interactive, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 drew widespread acclaim earlier this year for its distinct art direction and orchestral score by composer Lorien Testard.
While Sandfall’s sleeper hit missed out on recognition at the Grammys, it’s likely to enjoy huge awards success at The Game Awards 2025. Nominees for the ceremony will be announced in “mid-November,” per the event’s official website.
