Some days (and indeed this day) it feels like the universe conspires to drain my wallet. Between Nintendo nostalgia, Xbox epics, PlayStation powerhouses, and PC throwbacks, today's round of bargains certainly has something for anyone who’s ever said, “Why the hell not? I'm worth it.” That being said, let's all go pay very little for a lot of great escapism.

In retro news, I'm lighting up 21 candles for a cake baked for Donkey Konga, the GameCube's delightfully odd peripheral thumper. The gist: smack, slap, or clap against a small replica drum to recreate pop hits, classical tunes, and a few cheeky Nintendo tracks. If you owned four of said bongos (like I did, because I go all in), Donkey Konga could take over any living room with its approachable and communal rhythm gaming. It's such a shame this never turned into an absolute sequel 'splosion like Guitar Hero. I would have bought a bunch more of 'em.

On Switch, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is still the gold standard for sandbox adventuring. I’ve spent hours fusing junk into flying machines I barely understand, and that’s part of the magic. Meanwhile, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is shaping up as a long-awaited comeback for Samus fans who’ve been in stasis since 2007.- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (-23%) - A$67

Over on Xbox Series X, Red Dead Redemption 2 remains one of the most detailed open worlds ever made. I still find new wildlife encounters every time I boot it up. On the Xbox One side, Fallout 4 is still a masterclass in exploration, even if Preston Garvey won’t shut up about settlements. Diablo III: Eternal Col. remains one of the best couch co-op experiences around, perfect for a lazy Sunday loot grind.
