After five years, Fortnite is finally coming back to iOS in Australia after the Australian court overruled Apple and Google’s decision to ban the game on the platform.

Fortnite was removed from the App Store back in August 2020 after Epic introduced its own in-app payment system that bypassed Apple’s 30 percent commission. Shortly after, Google followed suit, banning Fortnite from Google Play under the same terms.

While it didn’t take long for the game to be made available on Google Play, the bans have kept Fortnite and the Epic Games Store off iOS in Australia for nearly five years.

Epic reveals Fortnite will come to iOS in Australia

That’s finally changed after Epic confirmed on X that the Australian court has decided to overturn the ban and allow Fortnite and the Epic Games Store to return to iOS in Australia.

“The Epic Games Store and Fortnite will come to iOS in Australia!” shared Epic Games on X, going on to explain that “An Australian court just found that Apple and Google abuse their control over app distribution and in-app payments to limit competition. There are 2,000+ pages of findings that we’ll need to dig into to fully understand the details. This is a WIN for developers and consumers in Australia.”

The decision means Australia joins the United States in restoring Fortnite to iOS, while the UK remains without the game on their phones.

However, Epic has signaled plans to reintroduce Fortnite there later this year once new digital market rules take effect. For now, the Australian court has ensured players will be able to play Fortnite and use the Epic Game Store on their iOS devices.
