After weeks of footage leaks, speculation, debate and controversy, Marvel has finally released the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday after originally putting it in front of Avatar: Fire and Ash. Now, comic book fans are all saying the same thing about Steve Rogers’ return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While Marvel’s head honcho Kevin Feige has done his best to keep the Avengers: Doomsday plot under wraps over the last few years, that hasn’t stopped set leaks and details about the multiversal story making their way online.

In December, a low-res leaked teaser appeared to show Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers returning to the MCU in a brief look at the sequel. But now the studio has decided to finally let the world see the official trailer in full HD, rather than the grainy video that was shot on someone’s phone. It was originally attached to theatrical screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash, but now Disney has released it to the world.

The footage focuses on Steve Rogers riding his motorcycle back home to the house he had with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) which fans saw in the finale of Avengers: Endgame. Once inside, he cradles a baby, and text reads: “Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday.” But the tantalizing trailer had fans making a similar joke.

Marvel fans joke that they don’t have to watch Avatar anymore

A lot of the reaction to the Steve Rogers Avengers: Doomsday trailer was about the hype of seeing Chris Evans return to the role after his many comments about retiring the Captain America mantle following Endgame. But many people in the comments joked that they’re not going to watch Avatar: Fire and Ash because the trailer has been released.

One fan posted a gif of a bored monkey to X and wrote “everyone who had to sit through Avatar just to see the doomsday trailer seeing the Russo brothers post it on Instagram reels.” Another added: I don’t have to go see Avatar anymore!”

Someone else added: “You don’t need to buy a ticket to Avatar: Fire and Ash to see it.” Before a Marvel fan in the YouTube comments added: “Hahaha now I don’t need to see Avatar.” While some complained that the reveal about Evans’ return was ruined by putting it ahead of Fire and Ash, with one person writing: “Man I would’ve been real happy to see that person in the Avengers trailer if I wasn’t f*****g spoiled for it by people who watched f*****g Avatar.
