Baldur’s Gate 3 has been one of the biggest success stories in modern RPG history, and thanks to one of the most extensive mods made for the game, there’s going to be a brand new campaign to enjoy, and it’s coming soon.

Since its full release in 2023, Larian Studios’ Dungeons & Dragons epic has swept up awards, dominated Steam charts, and sparked nonstop discussion about what comes next. Fans have been eager for Baldur’s Gate 4, but while Larian has confirmed it will not be developing a sequel, the studio has given players full mod support so they can create whatever they wish.

And that’s exactly what’s happened. The game’s community has been building everything from new races and subclasses to total overhauls of character creation and combat. Now, one ambitious project is taking it even further, creating an entirely new campaign to enjoy.

Ambitious mod brings the Drow’s home to Baldur’s Gate 3

The fan-made mod Path to Menzoberranzan is a massive community effort set in the Underdark city of Menzoberranzan, the infamous home of the Drow. Known throughout D&D lore as a dark, sprawling metropolis ruled by powerful houses and constant political strife, the city has been one of the most requested settings since Baldur’s Gate 3 launched.

The project aims to deliver a full-scale custom adventure that takes players and a new cast of companions deep into Minthara’s hometown. Over 130 people are currently working on the mod, which has grown from a small fan idea into one of the most ambitious community projects seen in Baldur’s Gate 3.

According to an update shared in the project’s official Discord, the first playable alpha is already in the works, and is coming very soon: “The first playable alpha will include the prologue of our game, similar in scope to the Nautiloid of BG3,” the team wrote, goin gon to add, “It’s expected to be available in the first half of 2026.”

While the full release is still years away, the developers plan to roll out updates gradually. “We intend to release updates over time that include new locations and further the game’s narrative,” they explained, working a lot like Baldur’s Gate 3, which was in early access for just under three years.

“How extensive those updates will be depends on both alpha/beta feedback and implementation feasibility. We want our players to experience a satisfying portion of our game’s story with each new update we release, which requires more development to occur between updates, since our game features many interconnected story lines,” wrote the developers.

No full release date has been revealed yet, but players can expect an extensive new campaign soon.
