Despite the current success of Battlefield 6, the previous entry, Battlefield 2042, is getting a massive update according to leaks.
Battlefield 2042 launched back in 2021 as the most recent mainline entry in the series, but it quickly fell flat with fans. Missing features, technical problems, and divisive design choices pushed many players back to Battlefield 5.
Despite this, over time, EA released a series of updates that improved stability, added events, and slowly rebuilt the player base. While it never became a breakout hit, 2042 has maintained a steady community more than three years after release.
Now, according to a new leak, the game is preparing for a massive update, despite Battlefield 6 being very close to release.
As originally revealed by renowned leaker Temporyal on X, “Battlefield 2042 may be getting a surprisingly big (maybe final?) content update soon.”
The update will add a brand new map and several new weapons, vehicles, and cosmetics, including:
- Map:
- Iwo Jima
- Weapons:
- The Prototype (“Riverdweller”)
- KFS2000 (FN F2000)
- GM6 Lynx
- Vault Vehicles:
- A-10 Warthog
- SU-25TM Frogfoot
- Cosmetics:
- Pax Armata-themed skins
The timing lines up with a major Battlefield resurgence. The Battlefield 6 open beta has pulled in record numbers on Steam, peaking at over 500,000 concurrent players.
Feedback on new maps, modes, and quality-of-life improvements has been strong, and hype is building ahead of its October 10 release.
While EA has not confirmed a date for 2042’s update, it is expected to land before Battlefield 6 launches. So for players looking to get their Battlefield fix before the new game arrives, this could be the perfect send-off for 2042.
