Battlefield 6’s developers released a blog about their initial findings and adjustments they’re going to implement based on the beta, and one of the key points was movement.

There were some CoD speed demons absolutely wreaking havoc in the beta, something that old-school Battlefield fans weren’t a particularly big fan of. Sure, bunny hopping across the map and taking out entire squads on your own requires skill, but it’s not exactly in the spirit of Battlfield.

Fortunately for those who weren’t a fan of this style of gameplay, it’s getting nerfed with very pointed changes at those who were abusing slide momentum and b-hopping.

The goal is to make Battlefield 6 feel fluid without making it feel sluggish, allowing it to toe the line between CoD’s arcade-y style and mil-sim games like Arma.

BF6 is getting some major changes to movement

For the average player, these changes may not have too much impact. If you’re someone who sprints around, slides every once in a while to get out of combat, and jumps out of the way of grenades, you likely won’t feel a thing.

These changes are meant more for those who leveraged and broke movement mechanics to jump around the map at breakneck speeds.

People who got the hang of how to move were really surfing around, and they did it with almost no penalty to their accuracy. Repeated jumps weren’t punished all that much either, allowing people to make themselves very hard to hit.

This is specifically what the BF6 devs are trying to eliminate before the game comes out, keeping people from playing Battlefield like it’s Warzone.

“Movement mechanics have been adjusted to create a more balanced and traditional Battlefield experience. Momentum, especially horizontal speed, carried from a slide into a jump has been reduced. There is now a greater penalty for consecutive jumps, which lowers jump height when jumps are spammed. Firing while jumping or sliding will result in increased inaccuracy,” the dev update explains.

“These changes are designed to make sliding and jumping more situational, so they are no longer ideal options for engaging in gunfights, and will contribute to a gameplay pace that rewards skillful movement without becoming too fast or unpredictable.”

Battlefield 6’s Principal Gameplay Designer followed up, saying that the changes aren’t too drastic and are meant to target the type of gameplay shown specifically in the aforementioned clip.
