Dexerto caught up with the winner of Beast Games Season 2, who gave updates on his friendships outside of the competition and revealed why he chose to aim for Player 172, Auguste Auger, in the finale. Warning: spoilers ahead!
MrBeast’s competition series reached its finale on Wednesday (February 25), seeing six finalists whittled down to just one ultimate winner. In the end, Player 167, Tyler Lucas, came out on top, bagging a cool $5.1 million.
Tyler told us that he hasn’t touched his prize pot just yet, as he wants to make sure his children are set up for life first. He also gave an update on Players 173 and 152, Jim and Monika, saying the couple recently moved in together.
We took the opportunity to ask about Auguste, a contestant who’d been Tyler’s friend throughout the series. This is what made his decision to aim for his heart all the more surprising, but there was a good reason for it.
Beast Games Season 2 winner on kicking Auguste’s heart
In Beast Games Season 2 Episode 10, Tyler explained, “I just felt bad all of us targeting Hannah.” This is something he has since elaborated on, saying it was a tough decision, but ultimately he wanted his children to see him being a good role model.
For the uninitiated, in the eighth game, the remaining six players stood on platforms with their individual glass hearts directly opposite to them. They took turns kicking a ball at each other’s hearts, and if one was shattered, that player was eliminated.
Rounds of the game continued until two contestants were eliminated, with the first being Player 58, Jack. That left Tyler and Auguste, alongside Player 191 (Cory), Player 195 (Brett), and Player 99 (Hannah).
Following Jack’s elimination, the remaining players decided to target Hannah, leaving her in tears. When it came back to Tyler’s turn, he said he’d aim for Hannah’s heart but instead hit the closest to him: Auguste’s.
This left Auguste in shock, as the pair had been friends throughout the competition. “I’m sorry, bro,” Tyler said, but Auguste replied, “I don’t know why that had to happen that way. I mean, we went through the whole game together… I have no emotion. I’m just in shock.”
Following the release of the finale on Prime Video, Dexerto asked Tyler if he’s since made up with Auguste, to which he said, “ We’ve talked and we are on good terms. There’s no ill will.”
Elaborating on his decision, Tyler continued, “It was definitely difficult because he and I were an alliance and we were close. But it was just a tough decision to make.
“He was a good competitor, and it was a moment where I think I had to be strategic about what I needed to do to move forward and win.
“And then just seeing Hannah cry really ate at me, because I don’t want my boys to see four or five guys ganging up on a girl thinking that’s cool. So I just wanted to be a good role model for them and that’s ultimately why I made that decision.”
Player 167 Tyler reveals “amazing” living space in Beast City
Elsewhere in the interview, Tyler had no complaints about the living space in Beast Games Season 2, saying it was “an amazing place they built for us.”
Back in August 2024, before Season 1 of the Prime Video series had debuted, a number of contestants anonymously claimed that they didn’t receive adequate food, water, or medical care on set, as reported by the New York Times.
The following month, a lawsuit was filed by five contestants against the production companies of the show, including Amazon. The company declined to comment and the case hasn’t been settled at the time of writing.
MrBeast did respond to a Dexerto post’s fan comment asking about the conditions, stating, “We have tons of behind the scenes dropping when the show does to show how blown out of proportion these claims were.”
As Tyler told us, the living quarters for the second chapter were great and there were “no restrictions at all.” “We had the freedom to do whatever we wanted and just explore and enjoy Beast City when we had downtime,” he continued.
“It’s such an amazing place that they built for us. It was surreal when I first walked in there just to see what they had to offer and we definitely took advantage of our downtime, just exploring and enjoying our times there because we knew it wouldn’t last forever.”
What’s more, the players got free Starbucks on tap. As a sponsor of Beast Games Season 2, MrBeast and his crew added a customized pop-up where contestants had access to a 24/7 Starbucks, alongside a 24/7 Feastables café.
“There were multiple trips to Starbucks every day,” Tyler said. “I would say my diet was Starbucks. I had to take advantage of it.”
