Belarus has freed 52 prisoners of different nationalities after a U.S. delegation negotiated their release, the U.S. Embassy in Vilnius said on Sept. 11, according to Reuters.
The news comes during the visit of U.S. presidential envoy John Cole to Minsk.
After meeting Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko, Cole announced that the U.S. is lifting sanctions from Belavia airline, Belarus's flag carrier, state news agency Belta reported.
The released prisoners, the largest single group freed so far by Lukashenko's regime, have safely crossed the Lithuanian border, Lithuania's President Gitanas Nauseda said.
