The iconic AUG returns to Warzone as the ABR A1, but you’ll need the best loadout if you want to dominate Verdansk with the Assault Rifle once again.

Warzone has had plenty of infamous metas over the years, from the DMR to the Kar98k. One of the most memorable was the AUG, a burst-fire rifle with virtually no recoil that took over Verdansk during the BOCW era.

Well, after some time away, it’s back. Now named the ABR A1, it returned in the Season 5 update and is looking to become the meta Assault Rifle all over again.

So, if you’re planning to roll back the years, here’s the best ABR A1 loadout in Warzone, complete with the ideal attachments, Perks, and Equipment.

Meta ABR A1 Warzone build

  • Optic: Jason Armory 2x
  • Muzzle: Ported Compensator
  • Barrel: Reinforced Barrel
  • Underbarrel: Vertical Foregrip
  • Magazine: Extended Mag II

Kicking off the best ABR A1 build is the Jason Armory 2x Optic, a clean sight with extra zoom that’s ideal for mid-range fights. However, feel free to swap this for whichever option you prefer.

Then we’ve gone for the Ported Compensator and Vertical Foregrip to remove what little recoil the AUG had left, making it laser-accurate. We also recommend the Reinforced Barrel for additional range and bullet velocity to make it far easier to land shots at distance.

Finally, Extended Mag II sacrifices a bit of mobility, but more than makes up for it with 60 bullets per clip, allowing you to deal with multiple enemies before you have to reload.

Best Perks and Equipment

  • Perk 1: Survivor
  • Perk 2: Reactive Armor
  • Perk 3: Alertness
  • Wildcard: Overkill
  • Lethal: Frag
  • Tactical: Smoke Grenade

The meta attachments are nothing without the right Perks, and it’s best to start with Survivor to start your health regeneration quickly between fights. This pairs nicely with Reactive Armor, which automatically repairs any partially damaged plates to prevent you from wasting your extras.

Alertness is also a must-use, as this lets you know whenever you’re being aimed at, giving you precious seconds to react.

When it comes to the Wildcard, Overkill lets you equip another primary weapon to the loadout. Given that the ABR A1 excels at mid-range, the ideal pick would be either a HDR sniper to take out squads at a distance, or a close-range SMG like the Ladra.

Finally, for the Equipment, the Frag solid pick that can quickly clear a room, while Smoke Grenades are ideal for providing cover while trying to make a quick escape.

Is the ABR A1 meta in Warzone?

Yes, the ABR A1 has instantly become a meta choice in Warzone Season 5, continuing the trend of new guns being strong picks. While it’s not quite as dominant as it was during BOCW, it’s still a top-tier Assault Rifle you shouldn’t sleep on.

Unlike other burst rifles, the pause between each burst is virtually unnoticeable, making it feel as close to an automatic gun without actually being full-auto, as long as your trigger finger is up to scratch. It’s also extremely low recoil and deals a ton of damage, giving it a ferociously fast TTK at mid-range.

Pros and cons

How to unlock

The ABR A1 is unlocked by completing Page 6 of the Warzone Season 5 Battle Pass. You’ll need to play matches and earn enough Tokens to claim every other reward on the page before using a final Token to get the AR.

Luckily, it’s one of the free rewards, so you’ll be able to add it to your inventory even if you haven’t bought the Battle Pass.

If you miss out before the season ends, don’t worry, it will then be available through the Armory.

Best alternatives

If you want an Assault Rifle but can’t get to grips with the ABR’s burst fire rate, then the Kilo 141 is another easy-to-use option that deals plenty of damage. Or, you could go for the CR-56 AMAX, which caught a slight buff in Season 5.
