Bethesda is reportedly developing a remastered version of Fallout 3, much like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered that dropped earlier in 2025.

It’s been seven years since we last got a new Fallout game, and following the success of the Amazon Prime series, the post-apocalyptic franchise has only become more popular in that time. But with attention now turning to Elder Scrolls 6, which is “still a long way off,” the likelihood of seeing Fallout 5 anytime soon is very low.

However, in an interview with GQ, Bethesda Game Studios boss Todd Howard revealed that they have “hundreds of people on Fallout right now,” split between Fallout 76 and “some other things” they’re doing.

Fallout 3 remaster reportedly in development

But what exactly are these other projects? Well, according to VGC, one of them is a remaster of Fallout 3, the critically acclaimed RPG from 2008 that made the series the juggernaut it is today.

“One of the ‘other things’ Howard is referring to, VGC understands, is a remaster of Fallout 3, similar to this year’s The Elder Scrolls Oblivion: Remastered.”

They didn’t elaborate on how far along development is or give any indication as to when it will arrive, but in the same interview, Howard didn’t rule out shadow-dropping future games. He mentioned that releasing Oblivion Remastered with little warning was a “test run” that “worked out well” for the publisher.

Although the series was first created in 1997 by Black Isle Studios, it was Bethesda’s first attempt with Fallout 3, which switched the perspective to 3rd person and introduced real-time combat, which made it a household name.
