The Better Late Than Single couples were decided in the Netflix dating show’s finale this week, and while viewers at home were satisfied with the conclusion, many have shared one major complaint.

Better Late Than Single was poised as an introvert’s antidote to Single’s Inferno, and it truly delivered. The new series focuses on a group of contestants who’ve never had a relationship before.

After a makeover from the experts, they’re sent to a resort where they get to know each other, take part in challenges, and go on dates, all in the hopes of finding the one.

Episodes 9-10 landed on the streaming service on July 29, with the Better Late Than Single cast making their final selection. As viewers look ahead to a potential Season 2, there’s one thing they’d like to see changed.

Better Late Than Single viewers shocked by “hate” towards cast

Certain contestants have reportedly been receiving a lot of hate online, something that many viewers would like to see stop.

One of the biggest talking points of the latter half of the show was the situation between Yi Do and Ha Jeong-mok, who expressed interest in each other and went on multiple dates. In the final episodes, Jeong-mok changed his mind and went for Park Ji-yeon.

In the ‘Let It All Date’ date, Yi Do expressed her emotions and Jeong-mok asked if they could remain friends. Many have accused him of love bombing Yi Do, while others feel her emotions were too high for the short time they spent together.

There are also viewers who believe the editing is to blame. “That edit with Yi Do was DRAMATIC AF. This is nothing against Do, Jeong-mok or Ji-yeon,” said one.

“I just found it funny that when Jeong-mok and Ji-yeon were leaving for the overnight date, the camera then shifts to Do in the background, sitting in the rooftop swing feeling bad and lowkey about to cry.

“When Jeong-mok and Ji-yeon came back from the overnight date, it again pans to Do STILL IN THE SAME SPOT and crying her heart out?… Y’all cannot tell me that at least this part was not staged at all.”

Whatever the case, multiple contestants have received backlash to their individual situations, leading to calls to stop singling out cast members.

Over on Instagram, one wrote about Jeong-mok, “It’s fair for someone to want a partner who matches their lifestyle or values. But let’s be real: that doesn’t excuse the way he handled it. But let’s not bully him.”

Another stated on Reddit, “I just have to get this off my chest cause I’m genuinely shocked at the HATE Jeong-mok and Ji-yeon are getting! Like truly shocking… I think people are forgetting these people have never dated and the whole idea of the show was to find love.”

A third added, “Yes I agree, I think people are being too harsh. Both on Jeong-mok and Ji-yeon, and Yi-do, at the end of the day these people have never dated so these things are to be expected.”

Netflix viewers share hopes for Season 2

While we wait to find out whether Netflix greenlights a Season 2, Better Late Than Single viewers have also been sharing what they hope to see next time – including a more balanced perspective.

One wrote, “I am not a fan of many dating shows, but this one was my favorite. The show felt too short and I want a BTS or blooper episodes. I really hope they do a reunion in the future.

“This is just my wishful thinking, but I wish I could see more interactions between Jae-yun and Min-hong… Like everyone else, I loved how she was so kind to him and helped boost his confidence to be himself.”

Another said, “I really enjoyed this show. The concept is brilliant and much needed for a romantic dating show but I am so so frustrated by the lack of screen time for Seung-chan and Mi-ji. There had better be a good reason behind this injustice.”

One created a list of what they hope to see “improve” if Better Late Than Single Season 2 goes ahead, saying, “I think it would be better to have more days of the cast to spend together since some of them are very introverted and didn’t show the fun side much.”

They also want to see “more assistance from mentors in the show,” as well as “games for the first day that make the casts get to know each other’s personalities more,” allowing for feelings to develop without just focusing on looks.

Similar to other comments, there is also a call for the game changers – contestants who arrived later in the process – to get to know the cast better.
