The Echoes of the Dead event brings the new X52 Resonator to Black Ops 6, a special weapon that’s set to dominate the rest of Season 6.
At first glance, the Resonator looks like something plucked out of Zombies rather than the traditional guns we’re used to seeing. Call of Duty has definitely been getting more experimental in recent years, but this is one of the most otherworldly weapons we’ve seen in multiplayer.
It comes with just one attachment, the Shard, with three options that transform it into three completely different guns: a burst Assault Rifle, a Shotgun, or a charge Sniper Rifle. But the real draw is that it’s classed as a “Special Weapon,” meaning that you can equip it without sacrificing your primary weapon.
It may have only just arrived in the game, but it’s clear that this is one gun you’re going to be seeing time and time again.
X52 Resonator set to dominate Black Ops 6 Season 6
After testing it out in a few matches, the X52 Resonator is extremely effective at close range, especially with either the default or Orbed Eruption Shard.
In its base form, it acts as a rapid-fire SMG that melts enemies in the blink of an eye. It has plenty of range too, but its wild recoil means that it’s much more effective on close-quarters maps like Nuketown or Babylon.
Meanwhile, the Orbed Eruption Shard turns it into a pocket Shotgun but with ridiculous range. It’s capable of two-tapping at 10 meters, but even up to 100 meters, it only takes three shots, rewarding those with a fast trigger finger.
But the real star of the show is the Stone Escalation Shard, which turns it into a Sniper Rifle with a fast charge-up. This can one-bang enemies as far away as 50 meters with a body shot, and even further if you manage to hit a headshot.
