With Black Ops 7 arriving on November 14, Treyarch has announced a host of major changes following feedback from October’s beta.
In a Dev Talk video on October 21, Design Director Matt Scronce outlined a number of updates that will be live in the full game, starting with plenty of tweaks to movement.
The biggest is that you’ll no longer need the Dexterity Perk to aim while sliding, diving, and wall jumping, as it will now be enabled by default. Dexterity will still be useful for speeding up these actions, but you’ll be able to ADS even without the Perk, as the team wants to provide the “most fluid experience.”
This movement update also speeds up the process of mantling over objects, while also slowing down the slide speed to ensure that players aren’t relying on it too often during fights.
Another complaint from the beta was that footstep audio was too quiet, making it tricky to pinpoint where enemies were. The volume has been increased for the full launch, so you should notice that footsteps are easier to hear, even among all the action.
“We’re very happy with where they’re at. It’s going to incentivize more stealth playstyles without over-indexing on the need for the Ninja Perk,” Scronce added.
New Perk combinations
Scronce also detailed some significant Perk changes, including tweaks to the slots that specific Perks are found in, as well as combining some underused options together to make them more appealing.
Here’s a breakdown of the disruption changes:
Some Perks have also been combined to make them more powerful overall, starting with Shadow, which has been added to Engineer. Now, not only will you be able to see Equipment through walls, you also won’t set off traps when running past them.
Vendetta, which shows the location of the last player who killed you, has been merged with Assassin, which highlights enemies on a kill streak.
If you’re more of a melee player, Bruiser has been added to Close Shave, meaning you’ll automatically use your dedicated melee for melee attacks, while also receiving a health boost for each kill.
Another fun combination is Hunter’s Instinct, showing the direction of the nearest enemy after a kill, which has been added to Tracker, which highlights enemy footsteps.
Finally, Quartermaster has been merged with Gearhead, meaning you’ll never run out of Equipment in a match.
