Trailer
On June 20, NetEase uploaded its first trailer for Blood Message. The video gives players a detailed look at the game’s combat, characters, and beautiful environments.
Setting: When & where does it take place?
Blood Message is set in ancient China during the final years of the Tang Dynasty in 848 AD, a time of great turmoil and bloodshed. Players take control of a nameless protagonist during the Dunhuang uprising, setting out on a perilous journey across the vast wilderness of East and Central Asia to deliver a message that will seal the fate of his homeland.
“How can countless ordinary people—smaller than dust—leave a mark on history?” reads the official press release.
“The Blood Message development team offers this answer: The remembrance and praise of future generations become their eternal monument. The game invites players to step into the shoes of unsung heroes—not emperors or generals—but ordinary people driven by extraordinary resolve. A
Gameplay
Judging from the trailer, Blood Message gameplay focuses on “realistic” melee combat. The protagonist is shown wielding a sword, which he uses to deliver some brutal slashes and takedowns.
Interestingly, there also appears to be an emphasis on hand-to-hand combat, with the players using a series of grapples, throws, and tackles to get an edge over their opponent. The game’s official press release also notes that Blood Message features “narrative-driven gameplay anchored in cinematic storytelling.”
The devs have also focused on “blending stealth and survival mechanics” and even added some parkour segments, with the protagonist swinging across a ravine and jumping to nearby ledges.
While we don’t know if the game will be open-world, players will be able to explore expansive landscapes inspired by the diverse terrains of East and Central Asia.
On top of this, the developers revealed the following:
“We are ushering players into a new generation of high adventure with Blood Message. As our first completely single-player focused experience from NetEase Games, after two decades of deep dedication to the gaming industry, we are prepared to deliver a truly epic and cinematic experience for players around the world.”
