Borderlands 4 was originally announced for Nintendo Switch 2, but now that looks unlikely after the development has been indefinitely paused.

Take-Two has confirmed the Switch 2 version is no longer in active development, quietly pulling it from its release schedule and raising fresh questions about whether the port will ever see the light of day.

Borderlands 4 launched in September 2025, marking the first mainline entry in the series since 2019. The game released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with Gearbox pushing a more refined endgame, tighter gunplay, and a darker narrative tone.

However, after a delay and the recent reveal of a development pause, it seems Switch players may have a long time to wait until they can dive into the world of Kairos.

Switch 2 port removed from Take-Two schedule

As originally reported by Variety, it was revealed the publisher removed the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 from its upcoming release schedule.

“We made the difficult decision to pause development on that SKU,” explained the spokesperson, adding, “Our focus continues to be delivering quality post-launch content for players on the ongoing improvements to optimize the game.”

The statement suggests resources are being redirected toward updates and expansions for existing platforms, rather than finishing the Switch 2 build.
