Can you really earn money watching Netflix? Reviewer job debunked

Earning money for something we do for free is the ultimate dream. But if you’ve seen a listing for a Netflix reviewer job doing the rounds this week, we have some news for you.

Listen, we all need to pay the bills. The cost-of-living crisis is in full swing and it seems like the price of everything is going up.

This has spilled into the TV and movies world, with streaming services continuing to hike their prices (and let’s not even get started on the Netflix password crackdown).

So, it’s understandable that you got excited at the prospect of being able to earn money for watching your favorite Netflix shows and films and offering up your feedback. But if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Netflix reviewer job debunked

A new ad has shown up on TikTok promising that you can “earn money by watching Netflix movies” – but it’s not legitimate.

The commercial shows a person’s laptop on the Netflix homepage, while at the top it states their “balance” is £3532.55. Text over the screen reads, “Just got hired for the Netflix reviewer job”, while the account is said to be ‘Earn Money By Watching’.

But if you click on the account or the ‘Get Started Now’ button, you’re taken to a landing page that looks like it belongs to a site called factureon.com – a website that was registered just four months ago.

If you visit that website directly (side note: don’t bother), it’s just a wrapping page that has nothing to do with Netflix jobs.

From there, the landing page pushes you to click other buttons like ‘Get Paid to Watch Netflix’ or ‘Earn by Watching’. But instead of taking you to a real job listing, those links open up pages full of sponsored ads and sign-up offers.

In other words, you’re not being hired by Netflix – you’re being funneled into traffic loops designed to generate ad revenue and potentially capture your personal information. So, if you see this ad doing the rounds, the best thing you can do is keep scrolling.

The rise of Netflix job scams

The same goes for any of these types of job listings that sound too good to be true. Across TikTok, fake posts claiming to pay Netflix subscribers to watch its content and provide feedback have racked up millions of views, and none of them have turned out to be legitimate.

Again, forgive yourself if you’ve been fooled in the past. These scams often look convincing because some companies pay real-life creators or affiliates to promote their links. The creators aren’t actually handing out positions, they’re being paid for driving clicks.

It’s what’s known as a task scam: you’re lured in with the promise of easy money for simple online “tasks,” like watching a video, liking a post, or filling out a survey.

In reality, the scammers either make money every time you click, or they push you into endless sign-ups that harvest your data, with no real payout at the end.

There are countless sites like this – Flick Offers, ApplyFlix, SideReward, FlickReviewers, ReviewFlix, and Flixreview are just a few examples – but don’t be fooled.

Reporter Cassidy Williams shared some insights on the issue in a recent TikTok video, stating, “‘Get paid to watch Netflix,’ it sounds like a dream job, right?

“You’ve probably seen videos of people talking about how they made all this money and all they had to do was watch Netflix. But chances are, those videos are scams. The cybersecurity company Guardio has been monitoring this trend.”

Guardio sent Williams a screenshot from one of the websites, which promises to pay $36 an hour to watch Netflix content. “But look at the URL: it’s netpays.online,” she continues. “There’s no affiliation with Netflix.”

The team reached out to the streaming service, which confirmed that “most of these videos are scams.”

Can you actually earn money watching Netflix?

There is one way to earn money by watching Netflix, as revealed by Williams. “Netflix does have what are called ‘tagger jobs’, where you sort Netflix content based on things like genre,” she explained.

Here’s the thing: you won’t see these positions plastered all over social media. Instead, the only way to find them is on Netflix’s official career site.

They aren’t as simple as they sound either, and will require experience, qualifications, and knowledge. One person who claims their brother works as a tagger wrote, “Pay is based on prior experience and personal top of market but can range from $80-200k…

“The responsibilities of the job vary. The role isn’t just ‘get paid to watch Netflix’. It’s about understanding what makes a particular film or show stand out and communicating that via the product experience.”
