A public university in Canada has launched its very own VTuber group, made up of students from its undergrad arts program who create their own animated trailers, models, and more.
Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada, first launched ‘Cappuverse,’ its official group of digital VTuber ambassadors, in 2025.
Now, it’s getting ready to welcome its second class of hopeful VTubers, who are part of undergrad courses that embrace the emerging technology that’s shaping the future of online entertainment.
The university’s School of Interactive Arts and Technology has its own fully-equipped motion capture studio called ‘StudioSIAT,’ where students can learn about video production, editing, special effects, and more – a perfect combo for aspiring VTubers.

StudioSIAT courses encourage students to learn how to design, animate, and even rig their own VTuber models, as well as how to use Augmented Reality and Extended Reality software.
“Cappuverse strives to innovate and push the limits of media production, storytelling, and technology whilst providing students with opportunities for hands-on work with industry-level creative projects,” StudioSIAT’s manager, Jay Tseng, told Dexerto via email.
“This includes artistic and technical positions from every step of the production pipeline, from designing, illustrating, and animating, to motion capture, 3D modelling/rigging, and AR/XR development.”
According to Tseng, Cappuverse is fully built by students at SFU and universities across Canada. They also select “top talent” for Cappuverse from members of their student body who audition to represent their school on the “world stage.”
The second class of Virtual Ambassadors are set to make their debut under the group name ‘THE BUREAU‘ on Friday, February 27, with two animated trailers.
