Daredevil star Charlie Cox has vowed to finally play Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, after both the game and his performance as Gustav received critical acclaim.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is one of the biggest gaming success stories of 2025. The debut project from Sandfall Interactive was met with rave reviews, including five-stars from us at Dexerto, and is one of the favorites to scoop the Game of the Year award.
One of the areas that received the most praise was the performances of the star-studded cast, which includes Marvel’s Charlie Cox as protagonist Gustav. However, Cox previously mentioned that he feels like a “fraud,” as it only took him four hours to record his lines and he hasn’t even played the game.
Now, it appears he’s finally going to see his performance in action, just as soon as he buys a console to play it.
Gustav actor Charlie Cox wants to finally play Clair Obscur
During a Q&A at GalaxyCon 2025, Cox was asked a question by a fan about his character and Esquie, but admitted that he doesn’t know who the loveable giant is, although he was blown away by the look of the game.
“I remember being in the studio and thinking, ‘This is beautiful, the visuals are extraordinary,” he said. “They’ve come a long way since Mario 64, which is probably the last computer game I played.”
“I wanna play the game,” he continued. “I need to play the game. I need to get a console first, and then I need to play the game.”
Cox then reiterated that he feels like a “fraud” when people commend him on Clair Obscur’s success, as he had minimal involvement with the project, but he’s glad that it’s had such a big impact:
“I’m so happy for these guys because they’re not a big company that makes a ton of games. And I hear it’s a frontrunner to win Game of the Year or something.”
