Audiences can’t get enough of Charlie Hunnam as Ed Gein on Netflix, and the star will return for Monster Season 4, but not in the way you might expect…

Monster Season 3 caused controversy when it dropped on Netflix thanks to its depiction of Gein, a serial killer who inspired classic horror movies like Psycho and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

The true crime series came under fire from viewers for glamorizing Gein, a grave-robbing killer who used body parts to make trinkets in his home. Hunnam defended the show, saying it tries to depict Gein “as honestly as we could.”

But clearly, the experience hasn’t put the British actor off working with creator Ryan Murphy, because he’s confirmed to return in Monster Season 4.

Charlie Hunnam will play Lizzie Borden’s father in Monster Season 4

It’s been rumored for a while that Monster Season 4 will depict the life of Lizzie Borden, who was suspected of murdering her father and stepmother with an axe in 1892.

Netflix announced that Ella Beatty will play Borden alongside Hunnam as her father, Andrew Borden. Monster Season 4 is already filming in Los Angeles, although a release date has yet to be announced.

Also joining the cast is Rebecca Hall as Abby Borden, the stepmother who was killed alongside Borden’s father. Vicky Krieps will play Bridget Sullivan, the maid who was a chief witness in the trial. Monster fans will remember her as Ilse Koch, the Nazi war criminal whom Gein dreams about in Season 3.

Finally, Star Wars actor Billie Lourd and Dune: Prophecy star Jessica Barden will play Emma Borden and Nance O’Neill respectively.

Borden’s life has been explored onscreen before with projects like Lizzie Borden Took an Ax, and The Lizzie Borden Chronicles.
