A Chinese influencer with more than 12 million followers is facing backlash after posting footage of his wife’s 23-hour childbirth online, with critics accusing him of exploiting an intensely private medical emergency for views and for a paid diaper advertisement.
The creator, known online as ‘Paul in USA,’ documented the entire labor and shared the video publicly, including scenes showing his wife’s exposed body and severe complications during delivery.
According to reports, the labor lasted 23 hours and included life-threatening complications.
His wife suffered a third-degree perineal tear and a major postpartum hemorrhage, reportedly losing more than 3,000ml of blood before undergoing an emergency operation and transfusion. Both mother and newborn were ultimately declared safe.
Despite the seriousness of the situation, the influencer continued filming throughout the ordeal, including moments where she screamed in pain and received emergency treatment.
Public outrage intensified after viewers noticed that the video also included a paid diaper advertisement, with the influencer reading a promotional script while his wife was undergoing treatment.

The viral footage sparked widespread criticism online, with many accusing the creator of prioritizing traffic and monetization over his partner’s privacy and safety.
Following the controversy, the video was removed and his accounts were banned on Chinese platforms including Weibo and Douyin for violating privacy and commercial ethics rules.
Paul, born in 1990, is a Columbia University graduate and former Microsoft product manager based in Seattle. He began posting videos in 2019 documenting life in the US and built a large following on Douyin, where he has amassed over 12 million followers.
Amid the backlash, his wife later addressed the controversy, saying the couple wanted to authentically document the childbirth process and help others understand its risks and unpredictability.
