Chris Pratt has been speaking about his Marvel future, vowing to make good on a Star-Lord promise, and revealing what the Guardian of the Galaxy has been doing on earth.

Chris Pratt’s new movie sees him playing a detective on trial for the murder of his wife, and given 90-minutes to prove his innocence to an AI judge.

Mercy hits screens this week – on January 23, 2026 – and in the below YouTube interview, Dexerto’s Jacqui Faiman spoke to the star about both his character and the film.

During that same junket, we also slipped in some questions about his Guardians of the Galaxy icon Peter Quill/Star-Lord, as well as Pratt’s dream role, which just happens to be another Marvel character…

Chris Pratt promises to make good on Star-Lord promise

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 concluded with an emotionally charged scene that saw Peter Quill return to his home planet of earth, where the character reunites with his grandfather Jason.

The credits then end with a scene in which Peter is having breakfast with his grandpa, before these words appear onscreen: “The legendary Star-Lord will return.”

There’s been no sign of that happening since Vol. 3’s release, but when asked which of his iconic characters he’d like to reprise, Pratt said: “We made a promise with Guardians of the Galaxy that Star-Lord would return – I think I’d really like to make good on that promise.”

As for what Quill has been up to since returning to earth, Pratt said: “Probably denying the fact that he was responsible for the death of Iron Man, while simultaneously trying to convince people that he was a superhero at some point.”

He also believes rock n roll would come into the equation, with Pratt adding: “Probably catching up on the music. From ’70s pop all the way until he came back, there’s a lot of music to catch up on.”

Pratt wants to play a very specific version of the Punisher

We also asked if there’s any character in all of fiction that he’d like to play, to which Pratt immediately responded with “The Punisher.”

“He was my favorite comic book hero growing up so I’ve always loved Punisher. I get to kind-of play a version of The Punisher with James Reece in The Terminal List, but yeah The Punisher. He was so good.”

Jon Bernthal is presently playing Punisher in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and will next be seen doing just that in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. But Pratt has a specific comic book run he’d like to tackle, adding: “Maybe Punisher 2099.”

For the uninitiated, Punisher 2099 first hit shelves in 1993 courtesy of writers Pat Mills and Tony Skinner, and artist Tom Morgan.

Set in an alternate Marvel Universe, it focusses on a version of the character called Jacob Gallows, who starts the story as a member of the Public Eye Police Force.

He becomes the title character after his family is slain and he finds the original Punisher’s war journal, which encourages the reader to “carry on my work.”

The plot plays out in a dystopian capitalist future that’s heavily influenced by cyberpunk fiction and iconography; one that blends hardcore violence with cutting social commentary about surveillance, privatized justice, corrupt corporations, and a system designed to protect the powerful.

Mercy – which tackles similar themes about where society and technology are heading – hits screens this Friday, January 23, 2026. While if you bookmark/subscribe to our newly-launched ScreenTime YouTube channel, we’ll be posting more TV and Movie interviews there.
