With the Peaky Blinders movie hitting screens soon, the BBC has announced two new seasons of the TV show, which will be executive produced by original star Cillian Murphy.

Peaky Blinders launched on BBC 2 in September 2013, and the show’s combination of drama, violence, politics, and sex in post-WWI Birmingham struck a chord with critics and audiences alike, quickly turning the show into a global hit.

Starring Cillian Murphy as gang leader Thomas Shelby, the series ran for six successful seasons before drawing to a close in 2022. But the Shelby family will return in 2026, via a feature film titled The Immortal Man.

A new generation will then be introduced to fans through two seasons of a sequel series that’s set in the 1950s.

New Peaky Blinders to introduce fresh crop of Shelbys

There’s no word if Cillian Murphy will appear in the forthcoming seasons, as we don’t yet know if Tommy survives the events of the movie, but the Oppenheimer star is executive producing the show, while creator and showrunner Steven Knight will again oversee proceedings.

The official synopsis for the series is as follows: “Britain, 1953. After being heavily bombed in WWII, Birmingham is building a better future out of concrete and steel.

“In a new era of Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders, the race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger: with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart.”

Knight had this to say about what’s ahead: “I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride.”

There’s no word yet on when the two new seasons will drop, but they’ll be available on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK, and Netflix globally.
