Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 devs issue warning over fake AI merch

The developers of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 have issued a warning about fake merchandise that has been advertised using AI-generated pictures.

Expedition 33 was released back in April 2025 and has taken over the internet after debuting as one of the highest-rated video games ever.

The turn-based RPG can be played on PS5, Xbox, and PC, and is available for download on Xbox Game Pass, making it extremely accessible to anyone who wants to try it out.

Due to its popularity, companies have gone out of their way to make unofficial merchandise for fans to purchase, causing the devs to issue a warning about the online shops offering it.

On Wednesday, May 14, the developers hit out at websites using AI-generated pictures to sell pushies of one of its popular NPCs, Esquie.

“We’ve noticed a number of suspicious websites popping up, claiming to sell Esquie plushies,” they said in a post on X. “This makes us whooo. To be clear: any third-party websites selling Esquie plushies are NOT officially licensed. Many of them are using AI-generated artwork to advertise, and we strongly recommend against purchasing from these sources. They could be scams.”

To balance out the scams, the developers are looking into ways to make official plushies for fans to enjoy.

“But here’s the wheee to balance out the whooo: we are looking into making official Esquie plushies, and we want to bring them to you as soon as we can. In the meantime, please be patient — and don’t get scammed!” they added.

Fans flocked to the comments to share their thoughts about the idea of merch featuring their favorite characters, with many excited about the potential release.

“We need a lot of merch pleaaaaaase,” one user commented.

A second replied: “My wallet is ready for an official doll.”
