Clue is one of the most popular board games in the world, and having spawned a beloved cult movie of the same name in the 1980s, it’s now being turned into a competition series on Netflix.
Clue is a board game in which players try to figure out if the likes of Miss Scarlett, Colonel Mustard, or Professor Plum committed murder, with a variety of weapons including candlestick, rope, or revolver.
The game launched in the UK in 1949 under the name Cluedo, before that moniker was shortened to Clue for the US market when it hit shelves in America.
A movie adaptation hit screens in 1985, starring Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, and Lesley Ann Warren. While now the game is being adapted into a reality gameshow by Netflix.
Clue gameshow will feature “physical and mental challenges”
Hasbro Entertainment is teaming up with Netflix to turn Clue into an unscripted show, with the official synopsis as follows (as per Deadline):
“The series will feature a group of contestants facing physical and mental challenges to collect clues before stepping into a real-life game of deduction and deception. To win, they’ll have to outwit opponents and identify the who, where, and with what of the crime.
“Guess right and add money to the prize pot; guess wrong and they may be eliminated. They’ll be surrounded by familiar suspects such as Colonel Mustard, Miss Scarlett, Professor Plum and Mrs. White.”
There’s no word yet on when the Clue show will happen, but in terms of the streamer’s plans, Netflix VP of Unscripted Series Jeff Gaspin said: “Like so many families and friends over the years, we’ve gathered around the table trying to figure out who did it – making Clue a source of nostalgia that everyone shares.
“Thanks to the incredible vision of our partners at Hasbro Entertainment, IPC, and B17, we’re delivering a fresh, imaginative whodunit competition that will invite today’s audiences into that iconic world.”
