Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith has revealed he has a way to bring Keanu Reeves’ character Johnny Silverhand back for the sequel, and he’s openly calling on the actor to reach out.
Pondsmith made the remark during CD Projekt Red’s REDstreams Special, which went live on October 30, 2025. During the broadcast, he referenced Reeves’ interest in returning as Johnny despite the character’s fate in Cyberpunk 2077.
“Not that long ago, I saw that Keanu would like to find a way to come back from the dead and play Johnny again,” Pondsmith said. “I have ways to do that, Keanu. Contact me.”
In a September 8 interview with IGN, Reeves expressed interest in reprising the role and said he’d absolutely love to return as Johnny Silverhand.
Cyberpunk creator has “ways” to bring Johnny Silverhand back
The rebellious rockerboy served as a core character in Cyberpunk 2077 and reappeared in the Phantom Liberty expansion, becoming one of the franchise’s most recognisable characters thanks to Reeves’ performance and the character’s digital-ghost role alongside protagonist V.
CD Projekt Red has confirmed a Cyberpunk sequel, currently codenamed Project Orion, but has not revealed story or casting plans. Pondsmith’s comments now give fans fresh hope that Silverhand could find a path back into the world.
Cyberpunk 2077 has enjoyed a major resurgence following its 2.0 overhaul and addition of the critically acclaimed Phantom Liberty DLC. As the series moves into its next era, the idea of Reeves returning is certainly an exciting prospect that many fans will be eager to see.
