Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will bring the Mayor Fisk storyline to a close according to the showrunner, but the series has already been renewed for Season 3.
Yes, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) is back for another chapter of gritty superheroics on the streets of New York this year, and he’s on the backfoot after Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) has outlawed vigilantes and rules the city with an iron fist as its Mayor.
Luckily, the hero isn’t fighting the uphill battle on his own, as he’ll get some much-needed reinforcement from Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) alongside Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) and the few remaining police officers who aren’t on Fisk’s payroll.
But while the Mayor Fisk storyline seems to have only just got going ahead of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, showrunner Dario Scardapane says the new season of the Marvel TV show will bring Kingpin’s mayorship to an end.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 showrunner says Mayor Fisk story comes to”inevitable conclusion”
Scardapane revealed that the Mayor Fisk story will end in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, which could be seen as a spoiler for the show, since presumably that will mean that Fisk is ousted from his political career.
“So as we finish up the Mayor Fisk run with Season 2, as that storyline comes to its inevitable conclusion, what we’re doing going forward feels more like a return to the [Frank] Miller-era comics,” he told SFX Magazine. “So yeah, it was fun to play in the realm of politics but I like something a little more street level, personally.”
It’s odd, because the show was renewed for Season 3 in September 2025 and many assumed that Fisk becoming Mayor would be a lasting change in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, like it was in the comics. Especially since Spider-Man: Brand New Day is on the horizon.
There’s still speculation that Marvel will adapt the Devil’s Reign event from the comics in the future, but Scardapane’s comments imply that Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will bring Mayor Fisk to an end.
Audiences have also made comparisons to Fisk’s anti-vigilante taskforce with the recent controversies involving ICE officers in the United States, and it’s something that the showrunner is very aware of going into the second season.
“Stan Lee once said that he wanted to make his comic books a reflection of the world you saw outside your window. Then I also believe that what’s fun about the genre, and definitely fun in working with superheroes, is you’re dealing with huge archetypes, almost mythological characters, and that’s fun writing,” he explained.
So it seems like when the Mayor Fisk plotline comes to an end, Daredevil may deal with bigger threats — which would make sense given that his frequent enemies, The Hand, are also expected to appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
