Whether or not Robert Pattinson will be the DCU’s Batman remains to be seen, but Superman star David Corenswet may have just dropped a big hint.
When James Gunn announced the DCU’s first “Gods and Monsters” slate, it included The Brave and the Bold, a movie that’ll not only introduce the franchise’s version of Batman but also the “Bat-family.”
Is it still happening? According to Gunn, it’s still in the works and he’s “very involved”, but other people (namely, The Hollywood Reporter) have cast doubt over its existence.
That, plus Gunn’s ambiguous updates and the delayed development of The Batman Part 2, have added a lot of fuel to the fire of a compelling theory: Pattinson’s Batman could be folded into the DCU.
David Corenswet follows Matt Reeves and fans are losing their minds
Fans have noticed that Corenswet has started following Matt Reeves on X/Twitter.
Now, it’s worth remembering that Reeves’ involvement in DC isn’t exclusive to The Batman and his “Epic Crime Saga.” He’s also a producer on Clayface and clearly a confidant to Gunn, who’s constantly defended Reeves over complaints about how long The Batman Part 2 is taking to get made.
However, here’s an interesting detail: Corenswet doesn’t follow Reeves on Instagram, but he also doesn’t follow Andy Muschietti (who was originally announced to direct The Brave and the Bold) on any social media platforms.
In a behind-the-scenes clip, Corenswet can be seen saying, “One, two, three… Batman! Listen man, I’m just trying to end up in that movie, I really want to be in that movie.”
What movie, is the question: The Brave and the Bold or The Batman Part 2? Are fans deluding themselves because they want to see Pattinson’s Batman and Corenswet’s Superman on-screen together, or could these be early teases before Gunn announces a merge?
“BATTINSON ARMY HOLD THE LINE WE ALMOST HAVE IT,” one fan joked. “On the same day we had this? ‘One two three, Batman!’ Okay I’m delusional,” another wrote.
Speaking to ET in July, Gunn reiterated that it’s not currently the plan for Pattinson to join the DCU. “I’ve said it before. We’ve talked about it before, but it’s not what’s happening right now,” he said.
Also, Reeves hasn’t followed Corenswet back… yet.
