The Wall Street Journal has reported on DC’s plans to reboot its cinematic universe, with an outline for up to three movies on the big screen each year, all leading to a new Justice League flick.
On the dawn of Superman’s return, The Wall Street Journal has published a deep dive on the state of affairs at DC. From expectations of raking in half a billion on the new David Corenswet-led take on Supes, to reported talks with MCU figurehead Kevin Feige, there’s a lot to digest.
However, chief among the reported details is a new outline of DC’s roadmap in the years to come. Similar to Marvel’s sweeping slate of content, ranging from live-action feature films to animated TV shows, DC is reportedly adopting an approach that goes all-in in much the same ways.
In particular, DC is seemingly set to launch up to three movies per year, two live-action, one animated, alongside multiple TV show projects. The idea is to eventually bring the mix of characters together in a new iteration of the Justice League.
DC reportedly gearing up for another take on the Justice League
Although the 2017 Justice League, helmed by Zack Snyder, raked in a whopping $661.3 million when all was said and done, it was nonetheless deemed a ‘flop’ at the box office for falling short of its reported cost.
Now, with James Gunn at the helm, DC is allegedly taking another stab at the Avengers-style team-up.
With Corenswet donning the red cape, the leading hero have been cemented. Up next, Milly Alcock takes center stage as Supergirl, set to release on June 26, 2026.
Beyond the stars, the likes of Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Mister Terrifick (Edi Gathegi), Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), and Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz), have all made appearances on the big screen. Not to mention, Peacemaker (John Cena) is still at large on the silver screen with a second season arriving imminently on August 21, 2025.
There’s certainly no shortage of characters to pull from in the decades of DC history, but only time will tell who else may join by the time Gunn is ready to pull the trigger on his new Justice League.
A great deal hinges on the box office performance of the new Superman film. We’ll be sure to keep you posted as early data comes in.
