Dept Q conspiracy emerges after Netflix outage causes issues

Dept. Q is the new Netflix thriller series everybody is watching… or at least trying to. The streaming service has run into some “wild” problems, and fans are pointing fingers at the show itself.

For those who haven’t caught up yet, Dept. Q follows Carl, a former top-rated detective, wracked with guilt following an attack that left his partner paralysed and another policeman dead. On his return to work, Carl is assigned to a cold case that will consume his life.

UK fans among us will know there’s a top-brass cast in the binge-worthy TV show, with Matthew Goode and Shirley Henderson (Moaning Myrtle or Jude in Bridget Jones, take your pick) leading the charge. The crime drama has already been described as rigorous, grimy, and gothic by early reviews.

Sounds like something you want to watch, right? Well, you might have a problem with that. Fans have reported issues with watching episodes, and some think the show itself is to blame.

Dept Q “breaks” Netflix as outage removes episodes

Since the show was released on May 29, many fans have reported issues watching episodes of Dept. Q on Netflix after starting the first. Users have been met with the error message “Netflix title not available to watch instantly,” with the entire show disappearing from the platform for others.

“So I started watching Dept Q today (in the US) where all episodes are supposed to be available as of today. Get to the end of Episode 2 and it won’t continue, saying I cannot watch it anymore. When I go to look up the series all that’s there is the trailer. What????” one fan posted on Reddit.

“So this Q show broke Netflix?” another weighed in, with a third adding, “This is wild, has this ever happened on Netflix before?!! Feel like all the other apps honestly have been trying to keep up to Netflix and failing, miserably. But now… yikes.”

Over on X/Twitter, more fans had complaints. “Hey @netflix, what happened to #DeptQ? Binge-watched the first eight episodes, went out to dinner and it is no longer even showing up on Netflix. What the crap?????” one wrote.

Another added, “Seems like there is some sort of problem at @Netflix. Had an email reminder about #DeptQ starting today. Just finished Episode 2 and the whole thing has disappeared. You can’t even search for it. I was rather enjoying it. Be nice if Netflix told us what’s happened.”

While there’s nothing to actually suggest the show itself broke the platform, Dept. Q appears to be back and searchable in its entirety. Netflix has not officially released any comment about what happened and why the new TV show seemed to be the only one affected for some.
