Destiny 2‘s Ash & Iron update added a bunch of new firepower to the meta, including MIDA Macro Tool, which is single-handedly carrying Shotguns in PvP.
As its name suggests, this close-quarters monster boasts synergy with the looter shooter’s MIDA Multi-Tool Exotic Scout Rifle, but it’s so good on its own merit that pairing the two together isn’t necessary at all.
Put simply, Macro Tool shines so brightly because it has a favourable archetype and, more importantly, access to some of the best perk combos available for PvP.
MIDA Macro Tool PvE & PvP god roll – Meta analysis
Hardly surprising, but yes, all of the auxiliary perks you’ll want for a competitive roll of Macro Tool are focused on boosting the gun’s Range stat. With Smoothbore, a Range Masterwork, and Accurized Rounds, you’re looking at a total stat of more than 80.
You can temporarily boost this even further with Slideshot and Opening Shot, which, for most, is going to be the best general-purpose roll. Alternatively, you can opt for Threat Detector over Slideshot, but in testing, the latter was far more consistent in scoring kills due to the increase in effective range.
While it doesn’t perform as well in PvE, if you find a copy of the weapon with Grave Robber and One-Two Punch, it’s absolutely worth trying for melee-focused builds due to the incredibly strong gameplay loop of automatic reloads and increased melee damage.
How to get MIDA Macro Tool
MIDA Macro Tool currently drops exclusively from Crucible Ops. Fortunately, this means any activity found in that playlist counts, so you’re not restricted to spamming a specific mode over and over again. Likewise, as with any Portal-exclusive weapon, you’ve a much higher chance of getting a drop of the Shotgun when it’s a featured reward.
