Destiny 2‘s Arms Week, a retooled version of the event last seen in the original game, went live for the first time in the sequel on July 29, bringing with it a brand new weapon that rip-roaringly entered the meta.
Phoneutria Fera is the first-ever Spread Shot hand cannon. What does that mean? To put it bluntly, it’s a shotgun masquerading as a hand cannon, delivering a multi-shot payload that causes extremely high damage at short range.
Unlike its shotgun counterpart, Spread Shot hand cannons still use primary ammo, making them an interesting build choice for PvE and PvP. Fortunately, Bungie’s also seen fit to give Phoneutria an eclectic perk pool that excels not just at neutral game, but in the hands of melee and Solar-focused builds.
Here are the rolls you want to be on the lookout for while farming Arms Week.
Phoneutria Fera PvE & PvP god rolls – Meta analysis
While Phoneutria’s versatile perk pool is a boon across all areas of the sandbox, PvE players have the most options. If you’re running Solar, Incandescent’s obvious synergy is a must.
Likewise, Titans and Hunters building into melee will benefit most from One-Two Punch. Do note, however, that the damage increase from activating the perk is lower than for special ammo weapons, likely to maintain balance. If you go with the latter or Swashbuckler, Proximity Power will be your best bet for the first perk column. If running Incandescent, Threat Detector will be superior.
For PvP, you’ll want to focus on anything that increases range. Slideshot and Accurized Rounds are both great for this, but you can also get good mileage out of Threat Detector’s multi-stat boost.
If you’re comfortable in your Crucible abilities, Frenzy is going to be the best second column perk due to its damage boost. Surrounded gives a potency buff too, but requires you to purposely push into enemy territory. If you can, play with both setups to see which complements your playstyle best.
