The makers of Dispatch were worried that star Aaron Paul would never want to work with them again due to the “grueling” schedule required to create the first season.

Season 1 of Dispatch has been one of 2025’s most surprising success stories, becoming one of the year’s most critically acclaimed games and even earning a Game Award nomination. Now, fans are already desperate for an update on a potential second season.

But in an interview with Eurogamer, the team behind quirky superhero drama have pulled back the curtain on the brutal workload it took to create, to the point they thought that Robert Robertson voice actor, Aaron Paul, would leave.

Dispatch devs reveal “gruelling” schedule for Season 1

“It was gruelling,” narrative director Pierre Shorette explained. “We were worried he would never work with us again because it took so long. It’s like water torture, a drip here and there.”

“We’ll call him after eight weeks of not speaking, like, ‘Hey, we need you for four hours.’ It’s like, ‘F**k, I thought I was done with this.'”

Unfortunately, they couldn’t ease the Breaking Bad star’s workload, as he’s “basically the entire f**king game,” so AdHoc had to keep bringing him back to record more lines over the course of two years.

“I think if he knew what this was going to be, he wouldn’t have done it,” game director Nick Herman also said, with Shorette agreeing: “He would have said no for sure.”

Luckily, although best known for his role as Jessie Pinkman, Aaron Paul has also done plenty of work on animated shows. This includes Invincible, which Dispatch has earned plenty of comparisons to, and BoJack Horseman, which shares a similar tone.

Shorette thinks that this went a long way towards keeping the actor engaged in the material over such a long period. “He responded to that aspect of the game. Thank god, too, because I don’t know what this is without him at this point.”
