Doctor Mike has revealed that his Siberian husky Roxy has died, sharing the news in a personal YouTube update. In the video, he said, “we have to start with the unfortunate news that we lost Roxy.”
He explained how Roxy helped launch his online presence and was a constant in his life and career. “Roxy was my Siberian husky that essentially launched my personal brand,” he said.
“I’ve usually, in speeches, given credit to the fact that I became popular because of Roxy.” He added, “I say that not sarcastically, because Buzzfeed wrote an article, said, you gotta check out this doctor and his husky.
“So Roxy was a part of the journey from day one.”
Roxy’s important in Dr Mike’s life
Roxy was also tied to family memories, with Doctor Mike describing how she supported him and his father after his mother’s death. He later returned Roxy to his dad when he realized how much his father needed her.
He described Roxy’s health issues later in her life, including cancer surgery that led to a leg amputation, and said she adapted well for a time. As her condition deteriorated, Doctor Mike said, “She wasn’t able to hold her urine or her bowels.”
After discussing her quality of life, he explained, “Ultimately, in talking with my dad, we decided that it was time just based on the quality of her life, to put her to sleep.”
He said the veterinary team “did a fantastic job at making us comfortable, giving us privacy,” and “explained everything that they were gonna do step by step before they did it.” He added, “Watching my dad break down in that moment was really tough… basically reliving his wife’s death as well because of this.”
He closed by remembering Roxy’s impact on his family and audience. “She was just an awesome dog and represented a lot to so many people. So we’ll keep Roxy in our memories.” He also told viewers, “You wanna go comment on her page and just show her a little support on Instagram, that’d be awesome.”
